The State Seal of Mongolia (Mongolian: Монгол Улсын төрийн тамга, Mongol Ulsyn töriin tamga) is one of the National symbols of Mongolia and is used as the official seal of state. The president shall be the holder of the state seal.[1] The state seal shall be affixed on each page of the original text of the Constitution of Mongolia, on the first page of the original text of Mongolian laws, international agreements ratified by the State Great Khural, and the State Great Khural decision on establishing or terminating diplomatic relations between Mongolia and foreign countries.[2] During the presidential inauguration ceremony, the outgoing president hands over the state seal to the newly elected president.[3]

Description[edit]

The state seal having a lion-shaped handle, shall be of a square form with the state Emblem in the center and the words "Mongol Uls" (Mongolia) inscribed on its both sides.[1] The seal shall be made by hand in pure silver, measures 10.0 x 10.0 x 2.0 cm and height of the lion-shaped handle should be 8.0 cm. On the four corners of the seal, there is a "tümen nasan" symbol of strength and eternity, and the inscription "State of Mongolia" is written in folded Mongolian script. The seal is stored in a sandalwood box decorated with silver ornaments with national motifs and lined with soft silk fabric.[2]
